- October: The King of the Visigoths Theodoric II defeats the Suebi under Rechiar on a Roman mission and thus prevents their expansion on the Iberian Peninsula . In December he had Rechiar executed and installed Agiulf as governor of the Suebian Empire for the Western Roman Empire.
- October 16 : At Piacenza the general Ricimer defeats the emperor Avitus , whom he has killed a little later.
- Vandals conquer Corsica and Sardinia , and Capua is also destroyed by them. Ricimer wins a naval victory against the Vandals off Corsica, and in Sicily he beats them back near Agrigento .
- Aegidius becomes a Roman Magister militum in northern Gaul .
