Albert von Foller

Ernst Ludwig Albert von Foller (born March 30, 1789 in Bonslack, Wehlau district , † December 1, 1868 in Bromberg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Albert was a son of Rittmeister a. D. and Mr. auf Bonslack Ernst von Foller (1751-1811) and his second wife Marie Charlotte Dorothea, née von Knobloch (1763-1835).

Military career

Foller joined the Fusilier Battalion “von Oswald” of the 2nd Warsaw Fusilier Brigade of the Prussian Army on September 3, 1803 as a private corporal . As Portepeefähnrich he took part in the battles near Jena , Nordhausen , Lychen and Lübeck in 1806 during the Fourth Coalition War. In June 1807 Foller was transferred to the "von Waldenfels" grenadier battalion, with whom came after the peace of Tilsit on August 20, 1808 in the Kolberg Infantry Regiment and at the end of November 1808 in the Leib Infantry Regiment . With a patent dated October 15, 1808, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on March 30, 1809 and was appointed Adjutant of the Leibgrenadier Battalion on March 1, 1812 .

During the Wars of Liberation Foller fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen and Leipzig as well as in the battles near Hochkirch , Bischofswerda , Freyburg and Eisenach . At the Katzbach he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class.

With the formation of the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment , Foller and his battalion joined this association on October 14, 1814, and rose to become captain and company commander by mid-February 1816 . On September 28, 1829, he came to the 7th Infantry Regiment as a major and, from May 3, 1833, was also director of the United Division Schools of the V Army Corps . This was followed by a position as commander of the 2nd battalion in the 18th Landwehr Regiment from February 21, 1836 and, at the end of March 1840, promotion to lieutenant colonel . From March 30, 1842 to March 21, 1843 he then acted as commander of the Landwehr battalion in the 38th Infantry Regiment . He was then appointed second in command of the Glogau fortress while being promoted to colonel . In this capacity Foller was aggregated to the 7th Infantry Regiment on April 8, 1843 . On November 18, 1848, he was put up for disposal with the character of major general and a pension . He died in Bromberg on December 1, 1868.

Foller married Karoline Matzdorff (1796-1856) on March 30, 1819 in Berlin. The couple had several children:
