Alexander Waechter

Alexander Waechter (born July 24, 1948 in Graz ) is an Austrian actor , director and artistic director .

He is the nephew of the Austrian opera singer and opera director Eberhard Waechter .

Artistic work

Alexander Waechter made his stage debut in Hamburg in 1968 with the musical Hair . This was followed by work in the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna , in Berlin at the Renaissance Theater , the Schlosspark Theater and the Schiller Theater as well as at the three major Austrian festivals, the Salzburg Festival , the Bregenz Festival and the Mörbisch Lake Festival .

Alexander Waechter became known in Austria in the role of "Franzi" in the TV series Ein echter Wiener does not go under the ORF in the 1970s.

He has been a member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt since 1974. As an actor, Alexander Waechter played many works of Austrian classical modernism .

From 1999 to 2000 Alexander Waechter was artistic director of Theater mbH in Vienna.

As a director he staged theater productions at the Theater in der Josefstadt, Theater mbH and Shakespeare auf der Rosenburg, among others. After several large operetta productions in Mörbisch , Innsbruck and Vienna in 2001, he staged an opera for the first time, La Cenerentola in the Operklosterneuburg .

From 2004 to 2014 Alexander Waechter was artistic director at Shakespeare on the Rosenburg .

In May 2014 Waechter opened a new theater in Vienna under the name Theater franzjosefskai21 with the play The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka .
