Georg Friedrich Alexander Karl von Heinemann (born December 10, 1813 in Helmstedt , † November 21, 1884 in Weimar ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Alexander was a son of the Brunswick district court director Friedrich von Heinemann (1770-1854) and his wife Charlotte, née Meinders (1785-1854). He had nine siblings, including the finance counselor and entomologist Hermann (1812–1871), the writer Ferdinand (1818–1881), Major General Adolf (1820–1906) and the historian Otto (1824–1904).

Military career

Heinemann attended high school in his hometown and on May 20, 1831 joined the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . He advanced to secondary lieutenant in mid-September 1832 and was sent to the General War School in 1838/41 for further training . He then worked in 1842/45 as a mathematics teacher at the division school of the 7th Division and was then assigned to the topographical department of the Great General Staff . As a prime lieutenant and company commander, he was employed in the 2nd battalion of the 26th Landwehr Regiment in Burg from mid-June 1848 and then as an adjutant of the 7th Infantry Brigade . Shortly afterwards Heinemann became adjutant of the 3rd Division of the Army Corps in Baden and in this capacity took part in the battles at Philippsburg , Waghäusel , Durlach , Bischweier and Kuppenheim in the course of the suppression of the revolution . After the end of the fighting he worked as a general staff officer of the mobile 16th division , became adjutant of the 14th Infantry Brigade in May 1852 and then returned to his main regiment in mid-June 1852 with the promotion to captain as company commander . For a year Heinemann was III. Battalion of the 26th Landwehr Regiment in Neuhaldersleben , was then transferred as a major to the 31st Infantry Regiment and on November 13, 1860 appointed commander of the 1st Battalion. In the meantime he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and led his battalion in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles near Münchengrätz and Blumenau .

Awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords, Heinemann was appointed first commander of the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 86 in Halle after the peace treaty and was promoted to colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he became commander of Wesel on March 22, 1868 . In this position, Heinemann received the character of Major General after the war against France in mid-August and the Order of the Crown III in mid-October 1871 . Class.
