Alfred Reiter
Alfred Reiter (born December 1965 in Augsburg ) is a German opera singer with a bass voice . He has been an ensemble member of the Frankfurt Opera since 2008 and has made guest appearances in opera houses and concert halls around the world.
life and work
After completing church music studies , Reiter studied singing at the University of Music and Theater in Munich. In 1993 he became a member of the Opera Studio at the Bavarian State Opera , where he was taught by Astrid Varnay , among others . He also studied privately with Hans Hotter .
Engagements at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden and at the State Theater in Nuremberg followed . At these houses the singer was able to develop a broad repertoire, which ranges from Monteverdi to Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Wagner and Puccini to contemporary works. In 1996 he made his debut as Hans Schwarz and Titurel at the Bayreuth Festival , where he sang under the direction of conductors as diverse as Daniel Barenboim , Christoph Eschenbach , Giuseppe Sinopoli and Christian Thielemann . He also took on the title - under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle - at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2001 as Fafner, where he also sang Titurel and Sarastro six times. Further guest appearances have taken him to Stuttgart, Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg, Geneva and Cleveland.
In 2002 the artist made his operatic debut in the United States, singing Timur (in Turandot ) and Frère Bernard (in Saint François d'Assise ) at the San Francisco Opera . In the same year he made his successful debut as Gurnemanz in Cardiff. He also played this role in Geneva, Leipzig and Frankfurt. In 2004 he sang Hunding - conducted by Iván Fischer - in Brussels, Budapest, London, Paris and Valencia, in 2005 he sang König Marke in Geneva, and later also in Cardiff and Cologne.
Alfred Reiter has been a member of the Frankfurt Opera since 2008 , where he also appears in rarities, but has been able to continue his guest performances at other houses. In 2010 he gave the world premiere of Jens Joneleits Metanoia at the State Opera in the Schiller Theater in Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim and staged by Christoph Schlingensief . In 2013 and 2014 he played Sarastro, his star role, at Spiel am See at the Bregenz Festival - in a production by David Pountney . In 2017 he took part in the acclaimed world premiere of the opera Der Mieter in Frankfurt, staged by Johannes Erath , conducted by Kazushi Ōno .
Alfred Reiter is also a sought-after concert singer . He sang under the musical direction of Christoph Eschenbach in Hamburg and London, of Wolfgang Sawallisch in New York and Philadelphia, of Frans Brüggen and Howard Griffiths in Zurich, of Ivor Bolton in Salzburg, of Stefan Soltesz in London, of Christoph von Dohnanyi in Los Angeles, by Philippe Herreweghe in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Lucerne and Utrecht, by Michael Gielen , Ingo Metzmacher and Jeffrey Tate in Berlin and by Ulf Schirmer and Franz Welser-Möst in Munich. He takes on the classic bass parts in masses, oratorios and orchestral works, for example in Beethoven's Missa solemnis .
