Andrej Tavželj (born March 14, 1984 in Kranj , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Association des Sports de Glisse d'Angers in the French Ligue Magnus since 2016 .

Career

Andrej Tavželj began his career as a hockey player at HK Triglav Kranj , for whose professional team he was active in the Slovenian ice hockey league from 2000 to 2005 . In the 2004/05 season he played six parallel games for HK Slavija Ljubljana . From 2005 to 2010 the defender played for HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , with whom he became Slovenian champion in the 2006/07 season . From the 2007/08 season he took part in the Austrian Ice Hockey League with the HDD Olimpija . He finished the 2009/10 season at SG Cortina in the Italian Serie A1 . The following season he spent with their league rivals SG Pontebba .

For the 2011/12 season Tavželj was obliged by HK Jesenice , where he was team captain straight away . For the Slovenians he scored five goals and five assists in 37 games in the ÖEHL. In January 2012 he moved to HK Poprad from the Slovak extra league for the rest of the season . For the following season he was committed by the Dragons de Rouen from the French Ligue Magnus . With the team from Normandy, he was able to secure the French national championship title straight away . In the same year, he and his team also won the French League Cup, a success that he was able to repeat in 2014. After the main round win in Ligue Magnus in the second year , but the end of the playoff semifinals against the Association des Sports de Glisse d'Angers , he moved to Toros Neftekamsk in the Russian Wysschaja Hockey League in 2014 , which he won with the Team from Bashkortostan 2015 won. Despite this success, he left Russia and returned to Slovenia, where he was again for Olimpija Ljubljana, initially in the Austrian league as captain on the ice and, after missing the playoff series there, took part in the playoffs of the Slovenian league and thus the 15th national championship title of the club was involved. In 2016 he moved again to France, where he now plays for the Association des Sports de Glisse d'Angers in the Ligue Magnus.

International

For Slovenia , Tavželj took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championship in Division I in 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championship in Division I in 2004 .

In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2009 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 as well as in the top division in 2008 , 2011 , 2013 and 2015 . He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, as well as the Winter Games in Sochi itself, in which the Slovenes achieved a surprising seventh place.
