Andrew Lewis Prine (born February 14, 1936 in Jennings , Florida ) is an American actor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1954, Prine first attended the University of Miami , but left it prematurely and moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actor, where he made his theatrical debut in 1956. The following year, he made his Pulitzer Prize- winning drama Look Homeward, Angel made his Broadway debut in Ketty Frings . From the late 1950s he also worked for television and initially appeared in guest appearances in television series such as Peter Gunn and Alfred Hitchcock Presents . In 1962 he was given a major supporting role in the film drama Licht im Dunkel , which has won numerous film awards and is based on the autobiographical novel by the deaf-blind writer Helen Keller . In the same year he received one of the two main roles in the western series The Wide Country , which was discontinued after the first season.

In the following years Prine played mainly guest roles again, often in western series such as the Smoking Colts , Bonanza and The People of Shiloh Ranch . He also had major supporting roles in the western Bandolero alongside James Stewart and Dean Martin and Chisum alongside John Wayne . During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a guest star on a variety of series, from science fiction to crime series, doctor series, soap operas and sitcoms . In 1994, he appeared in A Terribly Kind Family as Al Bundy's favorite television hero, Psycho Dad . Most recently, he has appeared in formats such as Boston Legal and Saving Grace .

Prine, a cousin of country singer John Prine , is married to their fourth marriage. In 1962 he got his first marriage with the actress Sharon Farrell , which failed after a few months. In 1965 he married the actress Brenda Scott . The marriage ended in divorce after a month, but they remarried the following year. Prine has been married to actress Heather Lowe since 1986 .
