Andy Pilger (* 1962 in Krefeld ) is a German drummer .

life and work

At the age of four Andy Pilger received lessons on the accordion and the piano , with nine years drum lessons at the Niederrheinische Musikschule in Duisburg. In 1978 he was awarded the national prize for Jugend musiziert and a prize for Jugend jazzt . He was a member of the state youth orchestra and the federal student orchestra. This was followed by private lessons with Sperie Karas (drummer of the WDR Bigband ) and with Ronnie Stephenson ( SFB-Bigband , Paul Kuhn ).

From 1980 to 1987 he studied both classical drums and jazz drums at the Cologne University of Music . During his studies he had his first television appearances at Peter Horton 's Café in Takt ( ARD ) and at the pop up-and-coming festival in 1983 in Würzburg . a. Private lessons with David Garibaldi and Mike Clarke during a stay in the USA. He spieltet among others, Christoph Spendel , Wolfgang Engstfeld , Alex Oriental Experience and was for the album in 1984 Rumba Ibiza of Axel Fischbacher Group with the price of the German Phono Academy awarded. This was followed by appearances with the Günther Noris Bigband, the HR Bigband and artist accompaniments from Caterina Valente , Bill Ramsey , Gitte , Howard Carpendale , Harald Juhnke , Joy Fleming , Karel Gott , Marlène Charell , Götz Alsmann , and the Weather Girls .

Since 1988 he has been the first line-up for Starlight Express in Bochum . As a member of the Stella Promotion Band Musical Friends, he played concerts, tours and marketing events with Helen Schneider , Uwe Kröger , Andy Bieber , Pia Douwes , Peter Hoffmann and Stevie Woods .

During this time he worked in musical productions, including a. at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein , the Cologne Opera , the Komische Oper Berlin , the Musiktheater im Revier , the Staatstheater Kassel , the Aalto-Theater Essen , the Theater Dortmund , the Theater Krefeld / Mönchengladbach , the Theater Ludwigshafen , the Städtische Bühnen Münster , the Bonn Opera , the Bremen Theater , the New Westphalia Philharmonic and the Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen . With the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen he accompanied Lang Lang and Herbie Hancock on their world tour in the Philharmonie Essen and at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam.

As the only German drummer , he accompanied all the artists at the Grand Prix d`Eurovision de la Chanson (today's Eurovision Song Contest) in Zagreb in 1990 .

He played smooth jazz live gigs with Kirk Whalum , Gerald Albright , Erik Marienthal , Brian Culbertson , Keiko Matsui , Paul Brown , Vonda Shepard , Gabriella Anders , Rick Braun , Marc Antoine , Brian Simpson and Richard Elliot .

Since 2000 he has been organizing his own monthly jazz sessions, including a. in the Jazzkeller Krefeld (Funky Friday), in the Steinbruch Duisburg (Groove Attack, Funk Attack, Power Attack, Smooth Attack and Brendas Night), in the Grammatikoff (Sonja LaVoice & Friends) and in the Messajero in Mönchengladbach the series Yes we Jam together with René Pütz .
