Arena is an Italian commune with 1,328 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Vibo Valentia , Calabria region .

The territory of the municipality is on the banks of the Marepotamo River . It covers an area of ​​32 km² .

The neighboring municipalities are Acquaro , Dasà , Fabrizia , Gerocarne , Mongiana and Serra San Bruno .

Attractions

The oldest building in the village is a Norman castle from the 11th century, which was modified in the 14th and 15th centuries by Conclubet and later by Prince Aquaviva in the 16th - 18th centuries. After an earthquake in 1783, only parts of the corner towers and walls, as well as the medieval aqueduct, remain of the castle .

The Chiesa Matrice di Santa Maria dei Latini was built in the 17th century. Inside there are two statues of Gennaro Franzese from the 18th century, Cristo Risorto and San Michele, and a picture of Caravaggio .

The church Chiesa delle Grazie has a baroque portal and inside some sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries, in particular a figure of the Madonna delle Grazie in the classical Greek style.
