Argentré is a French commune with 2,814 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Mayenne in the region Pays de la Loire and belongs to Canton Bonchamp-lès-Laval .

geography

Argentré is located on a hill on the right bank of the Jouanne . The Autoroute A81 ( L'Armoricaine ) runs south of the village .

history

In 1884 a treasure from the 4th or 5th century was found in a quarry, the grave of a rich Roman with a coffin made of shod wood. The finds from the tomb are kept in the Musée des Sciences in Laval .

economy

The Rocher lime kilns, built in 1843 , were shut down in 1980. Two of the ovens were destroyed in 1987.

Attractions

The Château de Hauterive from the 13th to 18th centuries has been a monument historique since 1989 .

Argentré has been related to the municipality of Babenhausen in Bavaria since 1992 .
