Aristides Royo

Arístides Royo Sánchez (born August 14, 1940 in La Chorrera ) was the 36th President of Panama .

Royo studied at the National Institute in Panama City . He then studied law at the University of Salamanca and completed his habilitation at the University of Bologna .

On his return to Panama, he became State Secretary in the Ministry of Education. Later he was Panamanian ambassador to Spain and France . At times he also taught criminology and criminal law at the University of Panama .

On October 11, 1978, he took over the office of President as the successor to Demetrio Basilio Lakas . He remained in office until July 31, 1982. Ricardo de la Espriella Toral was his successor .
