Assunta Legnante (born May 14, 1978 in Naples ) is an Italian athlete who is 1.87 m tall and has a competition weight of 115 kg.

Legnante won bronze in the shot put at the 1997 European Junior Championships and the 1999 U23 European Championships . In 2000 she was convicted of doping and warned by the IAAF .

In 2002 she was second at the European Indoor Championships with 18.60 m. Outdoors she was eighth at the European Championships in 2002 . At the World Championships in 2003 Legnante was again eighth.

In 2006 she set an Italian record with 19.04 m. At the European Championships in 2006 she was fifth with 18.83 m. Legnante won gold at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham with a height of 18.92 m . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she did not reach the final.

After she went blind, she took part in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and won the gold medal in the shot put in the F11 / 12 category with a new world record over 16.74 m. At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she was able to defend her title in the shot put category F11 / 12 with a width of 15.74 m. In the discus throw she was fourth with a width of 31.51 m.
