The 2015 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1st and ended on November 30th. It is during this period that most hurricanes usually form, as it is only at this time that suitable conditions exist, such as warm ocean, moist air, and little wind shear , for tropical cyclones to form. The season started a month before the official start with Tropical Storm Ana.
In the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season, 12 tropical depressions developed in the Atlantic basin, 11 of which reached the strength of a tropical storm. Of these, four reached hurricane strength. Hurricane Joaquin was the strongest storm of the season and reached sustained winds of up to 250 km / h.
The following names have been given this season. This list is identical to the list for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season . In April 2016, the World Meteorological Organization removed the names Erika and Joaquin from the list of names of tropical cyclones because these storms caused considerable damage and resulted in significant personal injury. These names have been replaced by Elsa and Julian . The names that have not been deleted will be used again in 2021.
