Automotores Argentinos SA was an Argentine manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was based in Tigre , near Buenos Aires . The year of foundation is not known. Piero Dusio worked in the company - according to a source, he was also the founder. The production of automobiles began in 1947 or 1950, depending on the source. The brand name was Autoar . One source states that at least initially, Fiat vehicles were also built under license . In 1959 a contract was signed with NSU Motorenwerke , whereupon the license production of the NSU Prinz began in 1960 . In 1961 the own brand name was given up for passenger cars and in 1962 also for commercial vehicles. Production ended in 1962 or 1966.

Commercial vehicles were built from 1950 . The engine with a displacement of 2199 cc came from Jeep . In 1951 a two-door sedan with the same engine followed. Later in the 1950s the sedan was discontinued and instead a station wagon and a pickup truck were offered on this basis . In addition to the Jeep engine, a four-cylinder Fiat engine with 1900 cm³ displacement was also available for the station wagon .

Between 1958 and 1962 there was the Micropanorámico, a minibus , a pick-up and a box van with a front-link design.

The NSU Prinz had a two - cylinder four-stroke engine with a 75 mm bore , 66 mm stroke , 583 cm³ displacement and 30  hp . With a wheelbase of 2000 mm, the vehicles were 3145 mm long, 1420 mm wide and 1350 mm high. The curb weight was given as 506 kg.

Production numbers

The Autoar limousine and the station wagons and pick-ups derived from it were built around 1,500 vehicles, 204 of them in 1961. The Micropanorámico produced 597 minibuses, 372 pick-ups and 103 panel vans, a total of 1072 vehicles. The NSU Prinz produced a total of 2228 vehicles or 2432 vehicles.
