Rastrojero

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rastrojero was an Argentine vehicle brand.

history

The Rastrojero project was initiated in 1952 under the government of Juan Perón as a project by the state-owned Industrias Aeronáuticas y Mecánicas del Estado (IAME) in Cordoba . The goal of the Peronists was the industrialization of Argentina, among other things through an independent Argentine automobile industry. Politically motivated like the creation of the brand was also its end. Due to a decree of the Argentine military junta , production was stopped in 1979.

First series from 1952 to 1969

IAME Rastrojero Diesel NP-66 (1967)

The Argentine government bought parts of a failed production of Empire tractors in the USA after the Second World War . In combination with a chassis that was similar to that of the 1937 Ford and 2.2-liter gasoline engines with 65 hp from Willys Overland , engineers designed a Pick-p (Camioneta in Spanish) with a wooden loading area and a half-tonne payload. Panel vans and flatbed trucks have been handed down . With a wheelbase of 2680 mm, the vehicles were 4650 mm long, 1690 mm wide and 1660 mm high.

After the Empire components were installed in 1954 and Borgward built an engine plant in Argentina, production was switched to Borgward D4M diesel engines with 1758 cm³ and 42 hp, later 52 hp. A total of 26,000 vehicles were produced by 1969.

Second series from 1969 to 1979

Rastrojero Conosur

In 1968 a new model was designed. An over Peugeot related Indenor -XD- diesel engine with 1.8 liter displacement and first PS 65, PS 68 later, replacing the Borg Ward aggregate. The body was designed more modern with its mixture of the trapezoidal shape of a Fiat 1800 from 1959 and the cubic shapes of a Fiat 124 from 1966. The two-door version had a loading area made of square metal tubes and wooden planks. The four-door pickup version and the station wagon had an all-steel body that also included the loading area on the pickup. The four-door sedan “CONOSUR” for taxi fleets was added later. With around 4100 units, significantly fewer vehicles were sold than the previous model. Another source confirms some four-door sedans .

Frontalito 1969 to 1979

A small truck based on the front control principle with front-wheel drive , 1150 kg payload and 2-liter Indenor diesel engine supplemented the program from 1969. The Frontalito was initially designed as Auto Union and is very similar to the DKW F 1000 produced in Spain from 1963 .

Frontal 1969 to 1979

In 1969 production of the Borgward B 611 , which had been produced under license from 1960 to 1962, was resumed. A 3.2-liter Indenor diesel engine was used as the engine. The payload was 2225 kg.
