Herchen once belonged to the Siegen district

The mayor's office in Herchen was an administrative district in the Siegkreis . Herchen belonged to the Windeck district until 1806 , then to the canton of Eitorf . This later became the parish of Herchen .

In addition to its own parish, the parish of Leuscheid, which was incorporated in 1808, belonged to the formerly independent community of Herchen .

In 1830 the mayor's office consisted of two villages, 27 hamlets and three farms. It contained six churches and chapels, seven public buildings, 467 private houses and five mills. Of the 2553 inhabitants, 1557 were Protestant, 783 Catholic and 13 Jewish.

In 1845 the parish of Herchen included the localities

Altenherfen , Bitzerhof , Engelsbruch , Gerressen , Gutmannseichen , Herchen, Herchermühle (grinding mill), Lüttershausen , Neuenhof , Nieder- u. Ober-Rieferath , Ohmbach , Onkelmühle (watermill), Richardshohn , Ringenstellen , Röcklingen , Stromberg and Übersehn . Engelsbruch and Bitzerhof were not yet listed in 1830.

The parish of Leuscheid then consisted of the localities

Bitze , Bonhof , Dahlhausen , Ehrentalsmühle , Eutscheid , Himmeroth , Hundhausen , Kocherscheid , Kuchhausen , Leidhecke , Leuscheid, Locksiefen , Mittelirsen , Niederalsen , Niederleuscheid , Niedersaal , Oberalsen , Obersaal , Reidershof , Röhrigshof , Schabernack , Schneppe , Werfen and Werfermühle (Wassermühle) .

In 1888 the municipality / mayor's office had 4619 hectares of land, 1680 hectares of which were arable land, 270 hectares of meadows and 2266 hectares of wood. The community had 45 places with 746 residential buildings and 696 households. There were 3311 inhabitants, of which 2412 were Protestants. 872 people were Catholics, 23 other Christians, and there were four Jewish citizens. Ottofeld and Ottohof near Herchen and Sangerhof near Leuscheid were newly added as districts.

As early as October 5, 1932, Adolf Hitler became an honorary citizen of the mayor's office in Herchen. The application had come from Robert Ley and the strong NSDAP faction of the local council.
