The mayor's office Eitorf was one of the eight Prussian mayor's offices in the district of Uckerath in the administrative district of Cologne, formed in 1816 . In 1820 the mayor's office Eitorf came to the Siegburg district (renamed the Siegkreis in 1825) and in 1822 to the then newly formed Rhine province . The administrative district of the mayor's office Eitorf included the two communities Eitorf and Merten .

In 1927 the mayor's office Eitorf was renamed to Amt Eitorf . It was later dissolved and Eitorf became an unofficial municipality. The administrative district of the mayor's office corresponds essentially to the area of ​​today's municipality Eitorf in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The administrative area of ​​the mayor's office Eitorf was part of the Blankenberg office in the Duchy of Berg until the beginning of the 19th century , which opened up in 1806 in connection with the formation of the Rhine Confederation in the Grand Duchy of Berg . With the introduction of the municipal constitution by the “Provincial and Municipal Administrative Regulations for the Grand Duchy of Berg” on December 18, 1808, the Mairie Eitorf was formed by Napoléon Bonaparte . The Mairie belonged to the canton of Eitorf , Arrondissement Siegen in the Département Sieg .

As a result of the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, most of the Rhineland was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, administrative districts , districts and mayor's offices as well as associated communities were formed in 1816 . The mayor Eitorf first belonged to the circle Uckerath in the administrative district of Cologne . In 1820 the Uckerath district was dissolved and added to the Siegburg district (from 1825 Siegkreis). The administrative area of ​​the mayor's office initially belonged to the province of Jülich-Kleve-Berg , which in 1822 was combined with the province of the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine to form the Rhine province .

Like all the mayor's offices in the Rhine Province, the mayor's office in Eitorf was renamed "Amt Eitorf" in 1927.

19th century statistics

According to the "Topographical-Statistical Description of the Royal Prussian Rhine Province" from 1830, the mayorry of Eitorf included two villages (Eitorf and Merten), 41  hamlets , 31 separate farms and nine mills. The place Eitorf was the seat of a justice of the peace for the mayorries Eitorf, Ruppichteroth , Much and Herchen . Three churches and chapels were available to the population. There were also three public buildings and 715 private houses. In 1816, the towns belonging to the mayor's office had a total of 3,602 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 4,063 inhabitants, including 1,929 men and 2,134 women; 4,012 inhabitants belonged to the Catholic, 41 to the Protestant and 10 to the Jewish faith.

Further details are taken from the "Community encyclopedia for the Kingdom of Prussia" from 1888, which is based on the results of the census of December 1, 1885. A total of 6,385 inhabitants lived in 1,203 buildings and 1,304 households in the administrative area of ​​the mayor's office in Eitorf; 3,100 of the residents were male and 3,285 female. Regarding religious affiliation, 6,086 were Catholic, 275 Protestant, 9 were “other Christians”; the 15 Jews were resident in Eitorf.

In 1885 the total area of ​​the two associated municipalities was 6,987 hectares , of which 2,541 hectares were arable land, 501 hectares were meadows and 3,498 hectares were forest.

Infrastructure 1910

In addition to the mayor and two councilors, there were two mayor's secretaries and an administrative secretary in 1910. Two police officers, a foot policeman, a law enforcement officer, a roadside guard and a night watchman kept things in order.

The mayor's office also had a hospital, three doctors, a veterinarian, a pharmacy, five midwives, a local health insurance fund, a district court, a royal land registry , a notary, a post office and a royal railway station.

In addition to a high school for girls and a high school for boys , there was a vocational training school in Eitorf and elementary schools in Eitorf, Alzenbach, Bohlscheid, Irlenborn, Mühleip and Merten.
