Hombach (Eitorf)

Hombach is a formerly independent place in the municipality of Eitorf in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The place was first mentioned in 927 as Hunbech . Today Hombach is only a street name in the locality of Eitorf.

location

Hombach is located on the north bank of the Sieg below the steep slopes of the Nutscheid and is crossed by the state road 87 . Neighboring towns are Schmelze and Bourauel in the west and Kelters in the east.

Document mentions

King Heinrich I confirmed the Herford Monastery in a document dated March 18, 927 a. a. the possession of Hunbech secus fluvium siginam (Hunbech on the river Sieg), the paganorum castigationes was besieged by pagans.

In 1217 the Otto von Cappenstein family owned land in Hombach, which they sold to the Merten monastery .

Naming

The name of the district comes from the Hombach , the former name of the Schmelzbach . The Hombacher mill used to stand at its confluence with Sieg .

In 1885 Hombach had 27 residential buildings and 168 residents.
