location

Hatzfeld is located in the valley of the Überbuschbach it northeast of Schmelze in a secluded location.

history

A small copper ore mine was probably operated here in the Middle Ages, at the latest since the end of the 18th century . From 1856 ore was mined again, which then made a smelter necessary, which gave the place smelt its name. The Hatzfeld mine was operated for the last time in 1889, only briefly on a trial basis during World War II .

In 1888 there was an uninhabited house in Hatzfeld.

In 1901 the pensioner Bussmann and the shoemaker Peter Hönscheid lived here .

Until 1934, Hatzfeld belonged to the municipality of Merten.
