The Dortmund University Station is an underground stop at the train -distance between Dortmund and Bochum .

Origin and location

The stop was opened in 1983 with the new line built by the Deutsche Bundesbahn between Bochum-Langendreer and Dortmund-Dorstfeld. Previously, the University of Dortmund could only be reached by bus. The stop is located directly below the north campus of today's Dortmund University of Technology. A 1,325 m long tunnel was built for this purpose, in which the Dortmund-Dorstfeld Süd stop is also located. This tunnel is officially known as the “University Tunnel”, colloquially also as the “University Tunnel”.

Like all other stations on this line, it serves exclusively for passenger traffic. The side platforms on the two main tracks are each 218 m long and 96 cm high and thus enable the trains that run here to be boarded at the same height. There are no other railway systems. The operating points abbreviation is EDUV (Former course Directorate E SEN, D ortmund U ni v ersity).

Traffic importance

During the week, the stop is served every fifteen minutes by the S1 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn , which also connects to the Ruhr University in Bochum , the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In the outskirts of the day, on Saturdays, as well as on Sundays and public holidays, the S-Bahn runs every half hour, in night traffic (continuously on weekends) every hour. The executing railway company is DB Regio NRW GmbH .

There is a stop for the Dortmund H-Bahn directly above the stop . Both stations can be reached barrier-free via a shared elevator (see picture), so that passengers with reduced mobility can use both modes of transport without any problems. In addition, the nearby bus stop of the same name is served by the DSW21 city bus lines 445, 447 and 462 every 20 minutes during the day, the line 465 also stops here in the evening, and in the NachtExpress network the stop is connected to Dortmund city center via the NE8 line.
