The Budapest – Murakeresztúr railway line is an electrified, two-track main line in Hungary . It is of great importance in both travel and freight transport.
In 1861 the Budapest South Railway Station (Déli pályaudvar) was built, the Kelenföld railway station was only opened in the 1880s. From 1983 to 1987 the line from Budapest-Déli pályaudvar via Kelenföld and Székesfehérvár to Siófok was electrified, between 1989 and 1990 to Fonyód and until 1998 to Balatonszentgyörgy . From 2008 to 2013 the route was modernized with funds from the European Union . The aim was to expand the route to 160 km / h and reduce travel times. In 2008 the Gárdony station was extensively modernized.
Vehicle use
In 2006 MÁV bought 300 used German Halberstädter center entry cars to replace the 40-year-old cars that were previously in use. Until 2007, these also ran in the traffic red of the DB AG before they were painted in the blue-gray of the MÁV. The passenger trains are usually hauled by electric locomotives of the V43 and V63 series. Since 2006, electric multiple units of the 5341 series have also been used in the summer months , sometimes also electric locomotives of the 1047 series or electric multiple units of the BVmot series .
