During the fifth concert of Poppin'Party in the Makuhari Messe Hall , Argonavis from BanG Dream! a new project within the BanG-Dream! -Universe announced that it is focused on a male audience . Although the project is part of the franchise, Kidani made it clear that there would be no crossover with the series' female characters. The group consists of five sophomores. Mangaka Hikaru Miyoshi designed the character design.

reception

The anime series initially received mostly mixed reviews from the trade press, but BanG Dream! more and more positive reviews from his critics over time. While the first season, comprising thirteen episodes, was rated moderately, both the second and third seasons appeared in a better light among the reviewers. Chris Beveridge of The Fandom Post, who has already reviewed the first two seasons, praised the preparations made by the franchise for the later seasons of the series by producing other media in order to give the plot a suitable frame, instead of hastily developing further storylines.

The first season was one of the most talked about series on social media in Japan during the winter season of 2017. Still, the first season received mediocre reviews, largely due to the plot of the series. Christopher Ferris of Anime News Network only gave a rating of C- (according to the US school grading system) and described the plot as "the downright hollowest plot in an anime that he has seen in a long time," which he said was due to the lack of true misfortunes that the characters need to experience mattered. Opinions on the animation and the design were divided: While Ferris described the animation in its entirety as good-looking in his review, Brittany Vincent from Otaku USA - who compared Love Live! pulled up - less impressed and found that the animation in particular was not very well done. She praised the passion that was put into the show, but found that there was "a better and more inspiring selection" of music anime. Beveridge showed his liking for the realism of the characters, with the viewer's opinions about the characters tip the way that determines the success or failure of the series. He found the anime to be a solid show reminiscent of many other girl group anime. In an interview with Real Sound magazine in 2018, Takaaki Kidani, creator of the franchise and founder of Bushiroad , revealed that he was investing in promoting the game Girls Band Party! Due to the lack of enthusiasm among Japanese viewers . had to relocate.

The second season was viewed by Western reviewers as an improvement in both plot and animation. Julia Lee, for example, listed the second season of the anime in her article for Polygon as one of six must-see series this winter. She justified this by highlighting new bands and using CGI animations, without losing the artistic style that, in her opinion, was the first season. Farris, who already reviewed the first season, questioned the inclusion of new characters without much introduction, writing that "for those unfamiliar with mobile gaming, it is a disjointed transition." Nonetheless, he praised the emotional impact and the greater breadth of pieces of music in the series, but at the same time found that the series still had a long way to go before it could be described as successful. Beveridge praised the fluid animation and the "contagious energy" in the pieces, but noted at the same time that he had not dealt with the characters. Still, he found that with each episode, the better you get along with the series.

The third season was received mostly benevolently by the critics. Farris and Shawn Hacaga of The Fandom Post - the latter discussed all thirteen episodes individually - rated the third season positively. While both described the series as "solid in their own way," Farris praised the highlighting of the series' three main groups - Poppin'Party , Roselia and RAISE A SUILEN - and the successful promotion of the premise the series seeks to convey. This premise is that "the ultimate goal is the joy of playing in a band". Hacaga praised the character development of the members of RAISE A SUILEN, especially in episodes 4 and 5. He described in these two reviews that the series far exceeded his expectations and described the character development during the thirteen episodes as an absolute in his closing review Joy.
