The Benson State Recreation Area is a state park in Multnomah County in the US state of Oregon . The park is one mile west of Multnomah Falls on I-84 . Shepperd's Dell State Park and Guy W. Talbot State Park are in close proximity . The Latourell Creek and Youngs Creek flow through the park to its confluence with the Columbia River .

Part of the site was acquired by Simon Benson , a timber baron and proponent of the construction of the Historic Columbia River Highway , around 1910 . He later donated it to the city of Portland , which finally gave it to the State of Oregon as a state park in 1939. The Civilian Conservation Corps built first paths and other facilities in the park between 1933 and 1935. By 1977 the park area was expanded to its present size of 117 hectares through donations and purchases.

The park is a day trip destination, use is chargeable. The park has a picnic area and a disc golf course. There is a lake in the park, which is used as a bathing lake and for fishing, and which can be accessed by rowing boats. Every year the first weekend in June is Free Fishing Day , when everyone can fish for rainbow trout in the lake.
