The Bietenschlatt is a nature reserve in the municipality of Südlohn in the Borken district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The approximately 31 hectare area is located not far to the east of the L 572 state road and not far from the western border with the Netherlands on the northern outskirts of Burlo / Borkenwirthe , a district of the district town of Borken . The protected area includes remnants of the formerly extensive hedge-grassland area Bietenschlatt-Galgenbülten, a wet grassland complex in which many meadow bird species breed. In the NSG there are mostly extensively cultivated pastures and hay meadows influenced by waterlogging , in which some blanks were created. The curlew , lapwing and black godwit breed in this habitat . Other species that use the NSG as a feeding and resting habitat are, for example, the dark water strider or the little ringed plover .
