Birkach is a district of the municipality Windelsbach in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

To the east of the hamlet is the Rote Buck, approx. 0.5 km to the southwest is the firewood, behind it is a nature reserve. The Buckgraben, which is a right tributary of the Altmühl, flows south of the village.

A community connecting road leads to the district road AN 7 (0.9 km southwest) or to a community connecting road (0.8 km north) that leads to Preuntsfelden (0.5 km east) or also to the AN 7 near Hornau (1 km west) leads.

In the 16-point report of the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Colmberg from 1681 7 teams were recorded for Birkach: 1 property was subordinate to the Colmberg caste office , 1 property to Hofrat Schütz zu Ansbach, 1 property of the Teutonic Order Coming Virnsberg and 4 properties of the imperial city of Nuremberg . The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth mayor's office in Markt Bergel .

At the end of the 18th century there were 9 properties in Birkach. The high court continued to exercise the mayor's office in Markt Bergel. The imperial city of Rothenburg ruled the village and community . The landlords were the Kastenamt Colmberg (1 courtyard), the Brandenburg-Bayreuthian Kastenamt Ipsheim (1 estate) and the imperial town of Rothenburg (imperial town Rothenburg directly: 1 Häckersgut; monastery administration Rothenburg: 2 Häckersgüter; Spital Rothenburg: 2 Halbhöflein; Windelsbach parish foundation: 1 Halbhof; Senator Birkauer: 1 yard). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judicial office Külsheim and chamber office Ipsheim .

As part of the community edict, Birkach was assigned to the Bergel tax district, which was formed in 1811 . It also belonged to the municipality of Bergel formed in 1817. With the second community edict (1818) it was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community of Preuntsfelden .

On January 1, 1972, Birkach was incorporated into Windelsbach as part of the regional reform .

The place has been Protestant since the Reformation. The residents of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination are parish to St. Nikolaus (Stettberg) , the residents of the Roman Catholic denomination to St. Johannis (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) .
