Bischwind is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Seßlach in the Coburg district .

geography

Bischwind is located about 16 kilometers southwest of Coburg at the foot of the Lichtenstein Forest. The Bischwindergraben, a tributary of the Alster, flows through the village . The district road CO 9 connects Bischwind with Lichtenstein and Heilgersdorf .

history

The first mention of Bischwind was 1151 with "Rovdolfus de biscofheswineden" as a witness in a Bamberg document. This is questionable, however, as the place with Bischwind am Raueneck cannot be easily distinguished in older documents. A certain documentary mention followed in 1268 with "Biscofeswinede", when the Lichtensteiners received the place as a Coburg fief . In 1671, Bischwind had 18 stoves or fireplaces.

In 1735 the Protestant parishes of Bischwind and Lichtenstein were merged. Bischwind belonged to the Würzburg monastery , which was secularized in 1803 and for the most part added to the Electorate of Bavaria . From December 1806 to 1814, Bischwind belonged to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg . In 1862, Bischwind was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office in Ebern .

In 1875, Bischwind near Heilgersdorf, as the place was then called, had 176 inhabitants, 100 buildings and 38 residential buildings. The school was in Lichtenstein. 6 people belonged to the parish of the Roman Catholic parish church in Pfarrweisach and 170 to that of the Evangelical Lutheran parish, which was united with Lichtenstein and had its seat there. In 1876 the volunteer fire brigade was founded. In 1925 137 people lived in Bischwind, all of whom belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and 29 houses. In 1987 the village had 103 inhabitants and 30 houses with 33 apartments. On July 1, 1971, Bischwind was incorporated into Heilgersdorf. One year later, on July 1, 1972, the Lower Franconian district of Ebern was dissolved. Since then, Bischwind has belonged to the Upper Franconian district of Coburg . In the course of the Bavarian regional reform , Heilgersdorf lost its independence as a municipality on May 1, 1978 and, like its district Bischwind, became part of the city of Seßlach.

In December 2009, a photovoltaic system with almost 23,000 solar modules was put into operation in Bischwind on an area of 7.6 hectares .
