Blue Panorama Airlines is an Italian charter airline based in Fiumicino and based at Rome Fiumicino Airport . It also operates scheduled flights under the Blu-Express brand .

history

Blue Panorama Airlines was founded in 1998 by the Italian tour operator Astro Travel and began flight operations in the same year with a Boeing 737-400 that was taken over by Hapag-Lloyd Flug . By 2002 the fleet was expanded to include more units of the same type. Two Boeing 767-300ERs from LTU's inventory were also acquired for long-haul tourism, for example to the Caribbean . In the following years, the fleet was also expanded to include Boeing 757-200 and 737-300.

In 2001 Blue Panorama was involved in the founding of the Libyan Afriqiyah Airways and briefly used its own aircraft on wet lease for the North African airline.

In 2005 the company entered the low-cost airline business under the Blu-Express brand . A year earlier, a department for the operation of business jets called Executive Blue was set up. Blue Panorama is now owned by Distal & Itr Group (66.6%) and Franco Pecci (33.4%).

In January 2012, Alitalia wanted to merge with Blue Panorama and Wind Jet and integrate them. The takeover of Blue Panorama was canceled again in spring 2012.

On October 23, 2012, Blue Panorama applied for bankruptcy protection. As a result, in November 2012, the Italian aviation authority limited the company's Air Operator Certificate to one year. Until it expires, a restructuring must take place for renewed granting.

In October 2013 it was reported that Blue Panorama would either significantly reduce its order for twelve Sukhoi Superjet 100 or cancel it entirely.

After the bankruptcy of the Albanian airline Belle Air in November 2013, Blue Panorama took over its scheduled flights between Tirana Airport and some Italian destinations.

At the end of 2019 it was announced that Blue Panorama Airlines will be repositioning itself and will operate as Luke Air in the future. The aging Boeing 767-300s are to be replaced by used Airbus A330-200s from Qatar Airways' stocks .
