Bronkhorst is a small town in the municipality of Bronckhorst in the Dutch province of Gelderland .

The place is on the east bank of the IJssel , about 15 km south of Zutphen . There is a car ferry to Brummen . The place is characterized by agriculture. Some tourism is available, there are some picturesque alleys and farms, a small Charles Dickens museum and a castle chapel built in 1344.

Bronkhorst, which only has a few hundred inhabitants, can still call itself a city and is the fourth smallest city in Holland after Staverden , Eembrugge and Sint Anna ter Muiden . The place received city rights in 1482 , but never developed. The castle of the Lords of Bronkhorst stood in the village from 1140 to around 1828 .

With the municipality reform on January 1, 2005, the municipality of Steenderen, to which Bronkhorst had belonged until then, was combined with some neighboring municipalities to form the new municipality of Bronckhorst.
