The Federal Office for Defense Administration ( BAWV ) was a higher federal authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Defense . It was set up on August 1, 1962 as the Federal Armed Forces Administration Office ( BWVA ) in Bonn , renamed the Federal Armed Forces Administration Office / Office for Data Processing ( BWVA / ADBw ) on January 2, 1974 and finally renamed the Federal Office for Defense Administration (BAWV) in 1991. The last president was Matthias Leckel until the office was dissolved on December 1, 2012 .
After the dissolution as part of the realignment of the Federal Armed Forces , tasks of the Federal Office of Defense Administration were transferred to the newly established Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services of the Federal Armed Forces (BAIUDBw), Education Center of the Federal Armed Forces (BiZBw) and Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Federal Armed Forces (BAPersBw) .
The office had to perform central tasks of the territorial defense administration . It was divided into five departments:
- ZA central affairs
- RD accounting and service management
- PS Personnel and social affairs
- IU infrastructure and environmental protection issues, central occupational safety
- WR Defense replacement and legal matters
In addition to the five departments, the "Operations Center for Territorial Defense Administration" was set up as a staff unit. This was responsible for the planning, control and implementation of civilian participation in operations and exercises abroad. This was to ensure administrative support for the Bundeswehr on site.
The office was housed in Bonn throughout. Until 1965 it had its official property on Immenburgstrasse, then on Bonner Talweg 177. In 2000 it moved to Ermekeilkaserne (Ermekeilstrasse 27). Parts of the office were housed in four other properties in Bonn.
