history
The castle was built in the second half of the 12th century due to a fief of the Eichstätter bishops from the lords of Rechenberg , who belonged to the lower nobility, who were ministerials of the bishops of Eichstätt and fiefs of the counts of Truhendingen and Oettingen and owned almost the entire village of Ostheim , built.
In the course of the peasant war in May 1525 after the looting of the nearby Auhausen monastery, a fight between the rebellious peasants and the Margrave of Ansbach took place, which was victoriously ended by the margrave's troops coming from Rechenberg.
In 1583 the Rechenberg family died out. The property came to the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach. After that, the castle gradually fell into disrepair and was demolished.
Today the castle site, meanwhile a ground monument , still shows the place of the main castle in the forest , the ditch and the remains of the outer castle .
