Burkhardswalde is a village in the municipality of Klipphausen in Saxony .

history

The Waldhufendorf was created around 1150 by Franconian farmers and was first mentioned in a document in 1334. In the 19th century there were 17½ hooves, some of which paid taxes to Rothschönberg and some to Taubenheim . On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Groitzsch and Schmiedewalde were incorporated. In 1973 it was united with the neighboring town of Burkhardswalde-Munzig , and from 1994 to 2012 it belonged to the municipality of Triebischtal . Since July 1, 2012 the place has been part of the municipality of Klipphausen.

Culture and sights

Several buildings in the village are protected as cultural monuments (see list of cultural monuments in Burkhardswalde ).

The stately village church , which rises above the village and is said to have been a pilgrimage church ( place of grace ) in the Middle Ages , with the indulgence days for the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and the Birth of Mary is striking . It received its current Gothic appearance in the middle of the 15th century.

Also noteworthy is the stoneware in the Oberdorf, a farm that emerged from an early fortification. A wall encloses a square of approx. 9 m × 12 m, which houses a U-shaped building. The southern part is a residential tower probably from the 14th century. An association tries to preserve the vacant building.
