history

Limescale residual hole filled with water

The village was first mentioned in 1428 as "Smedewalde", the place name means " forge located in a forest ". Over the centuries, the place name changed, among other things via the stations "Smidewalde" and "Schmedewalde" to the current spelling. Schmiedewalde was probably founded by Franconian settlers from the East. Around the village, whose inhabitants earned their income from agriculture, a 337 hectare forest hoofed field extended.

Schmiedewalde was parish first to Blankenstein, from 1877 to Burkhardswalde. The manorial rule was exercised by the owners of the manor in the nearby Rothschönberg , the administration was for centuries the inheritance of Meissen . In 1856 Schmiedewalde belonged to the Wilsdruff court office and then came to the Meißen district administration , from which the district of the same name emerged. On the basis of the rural community order of 1838 , Schmiedewalde gained independence as a rural community , but lost its status on July 1, 1950 when it was incorporated into Burkhardswalde. After its merger with Munzig , it had been part of Burkhardswalde-Munzig since January 1, 1973 , which in turn had belonged to Triebischtal since March 1, 1994. With the incorporation of Triebischtal on July 1, 2012, Schmiedewalde became a part of the municipality of Klipphausen.
