The 13th edition of the COSAFA Senior Challenge 2009 (formerly Cosafa Cup ) took place from October 17th to November 1st, 2009 in Zimbabwe . For the first time, the final round of the competition was held centrally in one country. Eight teams from the South African region played here for the title of "Master of Southern Africa ".
The venues were the Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo and the Rufaro Stadium in Harare .
Angola and South Africa took part in the tournament with their B national teams.
Game mode
The 6 of the 14 participating countries, which had the highest positions in the FIFA world rankings in July 2009, were automatically qualified for the final tournament. The remaining eight participants played against each other in two groups, four teams each. The winners of the group matches qualified for the tournament. The final round was played in a knockout system.
Tanzania moved up for Madagascar , but canceled participation at short notice.
