The Club Sportivo Cerrito , or Cerrito for short , (nicknames: Auriverde, Cerritenses Gitanos) is a football club from the Uruguayan capital Montevideo , which is based in the Cerrito de la Victoria district there. The club's soccer team plays in the second highest Uruguayan league, the Segunda División , in the 2016 season .
history
The club with the club colors yellow and green was founded on October 28, 1929. The club's first significant title win dates back to 1948 in the Divisional Extra . In 1951 and 1970 the Club Sportivo Cerrito became champions in the Divisional Intermedia de Fútbol de Uruguay . In 1982 and 1998, the club was also able to win the championship in the Liga Metropolitana Amateur de Fútbol . Cerrito rose then in 2003 after winning the championship of the Segunda División for the first time in the top Uruguayan league. However, the membership in the Primera División only lasted until the end of the 2006/07 season. Then the relegation to the second division took place. For the 2009/10 season then came back as second in the table of the Segunda División. The first half of the following season, the so-called Apertura, ended the club in the middle of the table in 10th place. At the end of the season they finished 14th overall, which resulted in their immediate relegation. In the following season, in which Yoel Burgueño was also the top scorer of the league, the direct promotion was successful with occupying second place in the table. For this second promotion the club received the Copa "Ing. Milton Gonnet" named after the former president of Plaza Colonia .
