Cape May County is a county in the state of New Jersey . The county seat is Cape May Court House .

The county is located in the extreme south of New Jersey, borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east and southeast and has an area of 1607 square kilometers, of which 946 square kilometers are water.
history
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Cape May Historic District . A total of 50 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 102,326 people. There were 42,148 households and 27,354 families. The population density was 155 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.57% White, 5.06% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 1.35% other races Groups; 1.16% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.30% of the population.
Of the 42,148 households, 26.10% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 50.50% were married couples living together, 10.90% were single mothers. 35.10% were not families. 30.20% were single households and 14.70% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.94.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.30% of residents under the age of 18, 6.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.60% between 45 and 64 years of age 20.20% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 92.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 88.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 41,591 , and the median income for a family is $ 51,402. Males had a median income of $ 39,340 versus $ 27,621 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,172. 8.60% of the population and 6.40% of families are below the poverty line. 11.70% of them were under 18 years of age and 7.30% were 65 years of age or older.
