Chris Lipsett (born September 24, 1974 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player and coach who has played for the Dayton Gems in the Central Hockey League since September 2010 .
Career
At 17, Chris Lipsett played in the British Columbia Hockey League for the Powell River Paper Kings . Since he decided to study engineering at Clarkson University , he was also active for the university team from 1992 onwards. With the Golden Knights , the striker won the championship of ECAC Hockey , a conference within the National Collegiate Athletic Association, in his first season .
After graduating in 1996, he decided to pursue a professional career in ice hockey. Therefore, Lipsett signed a contract with the Roanoke Express in the East Coast Hockey League . After two and a half years and two play-offs , he moved to league rivals Pee Dee Pride in January 1999 , with whom he made it to the Conference Finals, but was defeated by the later Kelly Cup winner Mississippi Sea Wolves . Then the Canadian moved to the American Hockey League for the Kentucky Thoroughblades . There he was active for two seasons and scored over 50 points each time. He also played four games in the ECHL and the International Hockey League . 2001 Lipsett left North America and signed a contract with the Sheffield Steelers from the Ice Hockey Superleague . At the end of the season he was British champion with his team and also secured the title of top scorer in the league. The striker then moved to the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League . With the Sauerland , he narrowly missed the play-offs. Despite good performance in Iserlohn , Lipsett moved to the Alaska Aces back in the ECHL for the 2003/04 season , as he was also offered a job in his civil profession there for the summer months.
After a year he came back to Germany and played for Wölfe Freiburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . With the ninth place, it was enough for his team only for the play-downs, in which the relegation was sovereign. In the 2005/06 season , the Canadian completed only nine games for the Eisbären Regensburg and in 2006 went to the Central Hockey League for the Amarillo Gorillas . There he got 50 games and 60 points. The next year Lipsett was in the top 20 of the league's top scorers with 69 points, but his team missed the play-offs. In the 2008/09 season the striker was active for the Rapid City Rush . This was followed by an engagement with the Quad City Mallards before the Canadian hired as a player-coach for the Dayton Gems for the 2010/11 season . In this role he supports the US head coach and general manager Brian Gratz as assistant coach .
