Christophe Guénot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christophe Guénot (born January 7, 1979 in Saint-Rémy (Saône-et-Loire) ) is a French wrestler . He won at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing , a bronze medal in Greco-Roman style in the welterweight division .

Career

Christophe Guénot started wrestling in 1985 in Champforgeuil at the age of six . He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style, only at the beginning of his career did he start in a few competitions in the free style. He moved from Champforgeuil to Bagnolet and has been a member of the US Cercle de Lutte de Paris , the wrestling club of the Paris Metro , for several years . He is also employed by the Paris Metro. He was or is trained by Lionel Lacaze, Frank Abrial, Jean-Marc Charday and Patrice Mourier , the national coach of the wrestlers in the Greco-Roman style in the French wrestling association.

In 1999 Christophe Guénot became French junior champion in both styles in lightweight and in the same year took 2nd place in the French senior championships in the same weight class in Greco-Roman style and 1st place in free style. In the course of his career he won a total of seven French championship titles in the seniors, where he won 2010 and 2011 in Greco-Roman style in each middleweight division .

In the years 1996 to 1999 he was used by the French wrestling federation at four international junior championships. However, he could not place himself among the ten best wrestlers at any of these championships. It also took him a few years for senior citizens to reach the top international class. It was not until 2006 that he drew attention to himself when he scored a victory over the strong Ukrainian Wolodymyr Schazkych at the European welterweight championship in Moscow in 2006 and narrowly missed the medal ranks because of a narrow point defeat against Reto Bucher from Switzerland .

In 2007 Christophe Guénot then won the 2007 World Cup in Baku in the welterweight division with victories over Joakim Aardalen, Norway , Thomas Dantzler , United States a. Ilja Shafran, Israel , a defeat against Mark Overgaard Madsen , Denmark and victories over Konstantin Schneider , Germany (2: 1 rounds, 8: 7 points) and Julian Kwit , Poland a bronze medal and thus his first medal at an international championship. He was able to preserve this good shape in 2008. He won that year in Tampere at the European welterweight championship with victories over Ilja Shafran, Aleksanders Visnakovs, Latvia a . Menat Argin, Switzerland , a loss to Péter Bácsi , Hungary and a win over Valtteri Moisio, Finland, again won a bronze medal.

The greatest success of his career was the Olympic Games in Beijing . However, he had a lot of luck there (2 x bye), so that if he lost to Manuchar K Wirkwelia from Georgia, victories over Konstantin Schneider and Peter Bacsi were enough to win the Olympic bronze medal. It is particularly noteworthy in this context that his brother Steeve Guénot , who is six years younger than him, even won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman style in Beijing .

At the World Championships in 2009 and 2010 in Herning / Denmark and Moscow, Christophe Guénot no longer made it into the medal ranks. It occupies places 8 and 10 there.

Christophe Guénot is well known in Germany's wrestling circles because he has competed in the German Bundesliga for SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos and ASV Mainz 1888 for many years .
