Clarke Peters
Clarke Peters (* 7. April 1952 as Peter Clarke in New York City ) is an American actor, singer, dancer and author. His best-known roles include Detective Lester Freamon and Albert "Big Chief" Lambreaux on the HBO television series The Wire and Treme .
life and work
Peters was born in New York City and grew up in neighboring Englewood , New Jersey . In 1971 he worked temporarily in Paris and then settled in London in 1973, where he worked as a musician, singer and actor. In the West End of London he has appeared in Gotta Shoe , Bubbling Brown Sugar , Blues in the Night , Porgy and Bess , The Witches of Eastwick , Chicago and Chess, among others. After writing several revue numbers with his friend Ned Sherrin , he wrote the script for Five Guys Named Moe in 1990 . The musical was performed on both West End and Broadway and earned it a Tony Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Peters later appeared on Broadway and in regional theaters in the United States.
Since the late 1970s Peters has also been seen as an actor in film and television, one of his first appearances was a supporting role in the British science fiction Outland - Planet of the Damned alongside Sean Connery . In the 1990s she appeared in guest roles in several English television series and in 1999 in the cinema with the feature film Notting Hill . The following year he played the role of Fat Curt on the HBO miniseries The Corner . This describes the drug scene in a district of West Baltimore and is based on a non-fiction book by David Simon , who also acted as a producer for it. Peters then worked with Simon again later in his two best-known roles as police investigator Lester Freamon in The Wire (2002-2008) and as Mardi Gras Indian Chief Albert Lambreaux in Treme (2010-2013). The two critically acclaimed series are also penned by Simon. The Wire creates a society portrait of the city of Baltimore with a special look at the drug environment and Treme describes the rebuilding of a neighborhood in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina .
