The Bordeaux Métropole is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Métropole in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine , the city Bordeaux members and 27 suburbs.

Historical development

It was founded on December 31, 1966 and was known as Communauté urbaine de Bordeaux until 2014 . With effect from January 1, 2015, the previous legal form as Communauté urbaine was abolished and it was given the status of a metropolis under its current name.

tasks

The association of municipalities is responsible for planning and coordinating all areas of activity that affect more than one municipality. It has a parliament of 120 members that meets eleven times a year in Bordeaux. The parliamentarians are elected separately by the people in each municipality. The number of seats per municipality is determined based on the population.

One of the most important tasks is the coordination and supervision of the public transport company TBC .
