Career
Cory Sarich was selected in the second round as the 27th player by the Buffalo Sabers during the 1996 NHL Entry Draft . In the summer of 1998, the defender was then for the first time in the squad of Buffalo's farm team at the time , the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League . He had previously played in the Western Hockey League for the Saskatoon Blades from 1994 to 1998 .
Sarich was given on March 9, 2000 together with Wayne Primeau and Brian Holzinger in exchange for Chris Gratton to the Tampa Bay Lightning , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2003/04 season . During his time in Tampa he came in the 2000/01 season to three missions for the then farm team of the Lightning, the Detroit Vipers from the International Hockey League and in the 2001/02 season he played twice for the Springfield Falcons in the AHL. On July 1, 2007, the Canadian received a five-year contract with the Calgary Flames .
After Brendan Morrison could not play the day before due to an injury, Sarich became the new record player in the National Hockey League on December 12, 2007 with 388 games in a row in which he was on the ice. His predecessor Morrison even played a total of 419 times in the NHL without a break. Sarich defended this record until March 1, 2008, when he missed the game against the Phoenix Coyotes . Then Andrew Brunette became a record player.
On June 27, 2013 Sarich was transferred to the Colorado Avalanche in an exchange of the Calgary Flames together with teammate Alex Tanguay against David Jones and Shane O'Brien .
