Crazy is a German feature film released in 2000, based on the autobiographical novel Crazy by Benjamin Lebert . Actors include Robert Stadlober , Tom Schilling and Oona Devi Liebich . With around 1.5 million moviegoers, Crazy was one of the most successful German films of 2000.

action

The 16-year-old Benjamin, known by everyone as Benni, is sent to the New Zealand boarding school by his separated parents. It is not the first change of school for the boy, who is paralyzed on one side, especially because of his poor grades in mathematics and German. Benni has to share a room with Janosch, who is more interested in girls and fun than in school. At first the two become friends until they both fall in love with their classmate Malen. An argument ensues, and finally, at a party in a room in the boarding school in the kitchen, the two of them have a physical argument. This dispute is settled, however, when Benni apologizes to Janosch and Janosch intelligently looks for the guilt in himself. The two later learn that Malen has a relationship with a student, so that nothing stands in the way of continuing their friendship.

At the end of the film, the viewer learns that Benni is leaving school because he could not achieve the class goal. He and his boarding school friends are sitting in the kitchen during the graduation ceremony of the school year when Malen and two other friends join them. All together sing him the song "For me it should rain red roses".

Film music

In addition to the official score, there are a number of other songs that can be heard on the film's soundtrack . These are among others:

as well as two pieces by the band that included some of the movie's characters: Crazy and Wild Girls . Wild Girls was written by leading actors Robert Stadlober and Joseph Bolz , among others . Crazy is also from Joseph Bolz, who also sings the songs in the film.

occupation

The original plan was for Benjamin Lebert to play himself. However, after he did not trust himself to play this role, they looked for another leading actor and finally decided on the native Austrian Robert Stadlober . For some of the actors, the film marked the beginning of larger careers. Karoline Herfurth appeared in a smaller role in her first feature film.

criticism

“The film adheres closely to the literary model and repeats its weaknesses and strengths: on the one hand, a lively moral image with many vivid moments that go beyond the mere protocol of growing up, on the other hand not free from arbitrariness and idleness. Despite this ambivalence, the film creates an extraordinary perspective on the current emotional state of 14 to 16 year olds. "
