Thumbelina (original title: Thumbelina ) is an American cartoon from 1994, which was directed by the directors Don Bluth and Gary Goldman . The template is the fairy tale Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen . The interpretation is based relatively closely on the original fairy tale, even if a few small changes were made (for example, Thumbelina only got to know the prince at the end of their journey and the frog and beetle dropped Thumbelina after they realized that the girl would not be allowed to convenient for you).

action

The story is told by Jacquimo, a swallow infatuated with complicated love stories. It begins with a fairy godmother who gives a woman a seed. This seed turns into a beautiful flower from which a tiny girl "hatches" and thus fulfills the woman's long-cherished desire for children. The girl is called Thumbelina because she is no bigger than a thumb.

One night she meets the fairy prince Cornelius, who noticed her through her singing. They fall in love with each other.

On the same night Thäumeline is kidnapped by the frogess Cassandra, who she would like to have in her singing troupe and also asks Thäumeline to marry her son Goby. When the frogs leave Thäumeline alone for a moment, she can escape on a lily pad with the help of Jacquimo. After a few more turbulence, Thäumeline decides to make his way home.

Meanwhile, Cornelius, who found out about the kidnapping, begs his parents to stop the winter and goes in search of his loved one.

Meanwhile, Thäumeline meets Karl the Beetle, who is also an admirer of her beautiful voice. She escapes from him too, but notices that it has meanwhile come winter and crawls into an old shoe. Here she is found by Frieda Feldmaus, who takes her home with her and introduces Master Mole, a mole. Thumeline fell in love with him immediately and would like to marry her. Thäumeline, who believes that her loved one has died, finally agrees. Incidentally, Goby the Frog and Karl the Beetle work together and bring the prince into their power, who fell into a pond while searching and was frozen. When the two leave the prince alone in his ice prison, some friendly insects find him and thaw him.

Karl and Grundel are now on their way to Thumeline's wedding. Shortly before the altar, she changed her mind, because she cannot forget Cornelius, and flees again. She manages to get to the surface of the earth and meets Jacquimo, who has since found the valley of the fairies and now wants to take her there. Meanwhile, the thawed prince fights with a goby, which he also wins, and also makes his way to the valley.

The two lovers finally meet again there and Thäumeline can finally marry the man of her dreams. In the end, she even gets her own wings.

"What a shame! One-dimensional figures wade through sweet Barry Manilow songs. - Sticky, sugary fairy tale classic "
