Gilbert Gottfried (born February 28, 1955 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American comedian and actor .

Life

Gottfried began his career as a youngster as a stand-up comedian in New York. In 1980 he was hired for the show Saturday Night Live , but left it after twelve episodes in which he was rarely used. Until the mid-1980s he continued to work as a comedian and supporting actor in various film and television formats. In 1987 he played a supporting role in Beverly Hills Cop II , through which he gained the attention of audiences and film producers. As a result, he starred in a number of film comedies, including Look Who's Talking 2 and So A Satans Roast . In 1992 he voiced the parrot Iago in the Disney productionAladdin . Since then he has lent his voice to this in several sequels, the television series and in other Disney formats. He had other speaking roles in the Doctor Dolittle film with Eddie Murphy and in television series such as Beavis and Butthead and Family Guy .

Gottfried is also a popular guest star of radio presenter Howard Stern , on whose show he regularly parodies Groucho Marx , Andrew Dice Clay and Jerry Seinfeld , and of late-night talk show host Jay Leno .

Since 2014 Gottfried has been running a podcast called "Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast" in which he discusses films and celebrities with actors, authors and comedians.

Gottfried has been married to his longtime partner Dara Kravitz since 2007, with whom he has two children, Lily and Max.

Controversy on the tsunami disaster

On the occasion of the tsunami disaster in the wake of the earthquake in Japan in March 2011 , Gottfried tweeted several jokes, including: “What does every Japanese have in their apartment? - Floodlights. ”The insurance company Aflac , whose mascot Aflac Duck the comedian lent the voice, dismissed him according to a report in the Daily Mail and replaced him on April 26, 2011 with Daniel McKeague.
