The GDR ice hockey championship 1969/70 was the last championship, which - although practically nothing for years - included various divisions with promotion and relegation regulation. The SG Dynamo Weißwasser won their 17th overall title, with the TSC Berlin was the first time since 1958 a "civilian" team again secure the second place, the SC Dynamo Berlin finished in bronze medal.

In the group league, as in the previous year, the BSG Turbine Boxberg was celebrated as champions. As in previous seasons, ASG Vorwärts Crimmitschau proved to be the only equal opponent .
