David Clarke (born August 5, 1981 in Peterborough , England ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2008 . He has also been the club's assistant coach since 2016.
Career
David Clarke began his career as a hockey player with the Peterborough Pirates in his hometown, for whose professional team he was already active as a 15-year-old in the British National League . In 1999 he was named the best young player in the BNL. In 2000 he moved to the Newcastle Jesters in the Ice Hockey Superleague . After the dissolution of the team, he briefly returned to Peterborough, but then went to league rivals Milton Keynes Kings , for whom he played the season to the end. He also played individual games for the super league team of the London Knights . After a year with the BNL team Guildford Flames , in which he was recognized as the most valuable player in the league, he went to the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2003 , where he - with the exception of a detour to the Italian club HC Alleghe 2007/08 - has been on the ice since then. With the Panthers he became British champions in 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2013 by winning the EIHL . In 2004, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 he and his team won the EIHL Challenge Cup. He himself was in 2005 awarded the wertvollster players in the league, and in 2010 appointed to the All-Star team. He was also the best British striker and most successful British goalscorer in the EIHL several times. In 2017 he and his team won the IIHF Continental Cup . He has been the team captain of the team from Robin Hood City since 2013, and has also been assistant coach since 2016.
International
For Great Britain , Clarke took part in the junior division of the U18-B-European Championship in 1998 and the U18-B-World Championship in 1999 as well as the U20-C World Championship in 1999 and 2000 and Division II of the U20 World Championship in 2001 .
In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2016 and 2017 . He was the best assists in 2005 with six assists and in 2011 with four goals together with the Ukrainian Oleh Tymtschenko the top scorer of the tournament. In addition, Clarke took part for Great Britain in the Olympic qualifications for the Games in Vancouver 2010 , Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
