The Man Who Sells is a German crime film by the Hungarian director Josef von Báky from 1959. The film adaptation is based on an idea by Wolf Neumeister and Olaf Herfeldt. Hansjörg Felmy embodies the reporter Niko Jost in the main role .

action

The ambitious reporter Niko Jost is working on his series of articles Black Market and White Vests , which is marketed very successfully. As part of his research, he uncovered the dark past of a nouveau riche hotelier and businessman who, it turns out, has been wrongly accused of murder. Thrown into prison and cornered, the wrongly accused suffers a heart attack and dies. Only then do the true circumstances of the murder come to light.

Production notes

The film was shot in the Real-Film Studio in Hamburg's Wandsbek district . Ottokar Runze assisted Josef von Báky in directing. Erich Kettelhut was responsible for the film construction together with Johannes Ott .

The man who sold was on March 12, 1959 Kino Regina in Hannover premiered . It was first broadcast on television on March 2, 1964 on ARD .

Reviews

The supraregional weekly newspaper Die Zeit attested some of the actors' “fascinating” achievements, but complained, among other things, of the clichéd portrayal and the lack of detail of the professions shown, such as the newspaper publisher who is only interested in making a profit, or the officials and ministers who are all shown as not very witty.
