The Third Spring - Friends, Enemies, Fish & Women (Original Title: Grumpier Old Men ) is an American comedy film from 1995 . Directed by Howard Deutch and written by Mark Steven Johnson . The film is a sequel to the 1993 comedy A Mad Couple .

action

The action takes place six months after the end of the previous film. Melanie Gustafson wants to marry Jacob Goldman and both are preparing for it. Max Goldman and John Gustafson argue less than before. The shop, in which the men have previously spent a lot of time, is being taken over by Maria Ragetti and her mother, who want to open an Italian restaurant there.

Max and John try to thwart the Ragettis' plans. The restaurant opens anyway, but initially has only a few guests. Maria Ragetti persuades Max to end the guerrilla war. They come closer. After some turmoil, they finally get married.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the sequel was not as funny, spontaneous and amusing as the first film. The film is "uninspired"; even Burgess Meredith, who was particularly good in the first film, played worse this time.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "matt infusion". The "mindless and pointless" script stipulates "a lot of idle time", the "good actors struggle in vain to fulfill the insoluble task of producing amusing entertainment."

Prisma Online said: “Decades earlier, the comedian duo Matthau / Lemmon had huge success with films in which they could poison each other to their hearts' content, for example in" A Strange Couple "(1968) or in Billy Wilder's" Extrablatt "(1974). In the mid-90s, the two warriors were brought out of their well-deserved retirement. They had success again with " A crazy couple - old crazy and freshly in love ", but even this follow-up (cinema title: "The Third Spring") sagged noticeably in quality. Compared to an absolutely sad piece of work like " Tango compliant " (1997), it is still bearable. "

Cinema , on the other hand, was of the opinion that the film surpassed the first part “in Esprit” and summed up: “Doll: Altstars set off a gag fireworks”.

Awards

Jack Lemmon was nominated for an American Comedy Award in 1996. Alan Silvestri won the BMI Film Music Award in 1996 .

backgrounds
