The German field handball championship 1939/40 was the 19th German field handball championship . Due to the beginning of the Second World War on September 1, 1939, gaming operations were suspended for the time being. From December 1939, games were held again in the individual area classes (formerly Gauligen). Numerous military pro clubs , including the defending champion and three-time field handball champion MTSA Leipzig , withdrew from games due to the war. There were now 19 division classes, the winners of which qualified for the championship finals. For the first time since 1934 the handball championship was played entirely in the knockout system .
The Lintforter SpV won the final on July 7, 1940 against the police SV Magdeburg with 9: 6 and thus became German field handball champions for the first time.
