action

Leonard Nimoy begins the episode hosting a show about extraterrestrial encounters. He's talking about a meeting in a town called Springfield .

After Homer drank ten bottles of Red Tick Beer on a Friday night at Moe's tavern , Moe explains that he's too drunk to drive. Homer decides to go home, but gets lost. In a clearing he suddenly sees a glowing green figure. Although she says not to be afraid, Homer runs away screaming.

When he then told his family about the incident, nobody believed him. FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, however, begin an investigation after hearing about the matter. Most of the people in the neighborhood smile at Homer, only Bart believes him.

The next Friday evening, Bart and Homer are waiting in the forest for the supposed alien. This actually appears and promises peace again, but Homer scares him and he escapes. Bart however has the whole incident on tape and so they finally have solid evidence.

Shortly afterwards, host Leonard Nimoy wishes the audience a good night.

Although the tape is only three seconds long, everyone in town - with the exception of Lisa  - is starting to believe Homer, which is why the townspeople go to the forest next Friday. When the glowing creature appears, it turns out to be the nuclear power plant owner Mr. Burns ; his assistant, Smithers, explains that he wandered through the woods, disoriented and foggy from pain medication, due to therapy he undergoes every Friday after work to extend his life for another week. The now clear Mr. Burns adds that his "healthy" green glow results from his lifelong work in the nuclear power plant.

The episode ends with the citizens of Springfield singing peacefully, accompanied by the two X-Files characters.
