The characters in the animated series The Simpsons are largely made up of a broad but manageable spectrum of " Springfield residents" who can take on different functions and relationships with one another in different episodes. The detailed compilation of information about the individual characters, which are part of the Springfield inventory, has therefore always been a feature of the Simpsons fan base worldwide.

There are also events and people who only play a role in individual episodes. These can change the Springfield microcosm significantly within their performance; but mostly it applies that these changes only remain valid within the course of the individual episodes and leave the basic Springfield personal structure untouched.

Much of the character's dates vary, such as Homer's age. Others simply don't fit, for example characters were together in a school class or in the military, but now they have a serious age difference. Also, some people apparently do not know each other, although they often meet each other in flashbacks; for example Grampa Simpson and Mr. Burns.

Simpson family

The Simpson family consists mainly of father Homer, mother Marge and the three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie. In addition, the dog Knecht Ruprecht (originally: Santa's Little Helper ) and the cat Snowball II live in the household.

Charles Montgomery "Monty" Burns is the owner of the nuclear power plant , Homer's employer, and the richest and most powerful man in Springfield. He is a recurring minor character. In the series Burns represents the cliché of the evil and unsympathetic capitalist who rejects a welfare state and unions . Through this, and through his ruthlessness towards others, he tries to accumulate more and more wealth, although he has more money than he could ever spend. In his machinations he can rely on the support of his submissive assistant Waylon Smithers, who also serves him as the housekeeper of his large estate. The first name is derived from the former President Richard Nixon , whose middle name was Milhous. The surname van Houten is based on Leslie Van Houten , who is a murderess convicted in the USA and was a member of the Manson Family .

Nelson Muntz

Nelson Muntz, dubbed by Wolfgang Schatz , is a thug at school who constantly makes himself noticeable with a malicious “Haha!” And thus often appears in places where people mishap. Like most of the thugs in Bart's school, Nelson also has immense emotional problems, which he can largely hide through his brutal manner, but which occasionally erupt again and again. Sherri and Terri, voiced by Caroline Combrinck , are twins with long, purple hair and are in fourth grade at Springfield Elementary School. You can't tell the two apart at all, but the springfielders can seem to tell them apart anyway. In the episode Barthood (season 27), the teenage Bart confuses the two when he accidentally kisses Terry instead of her sister. In the German dubbing, they sometimes had different voices at the beginning, but this is no longer relevant. Both always appear together and complement each other's sentences. Sometimes they think they're something better and enjoy teasing Lisa and playing pranks on Bart.

The names are based on Jerry Hall and her twin sister Terry.

His father works as a foreman at the chewing gum factory in Basel . In the original version, his father works as a foreman in the Düsseldorf chewing gum factory (The Düsseldorf Gumworks) .

In the US original of the series, Uter is German and is called Üter. The American draftsmen called him that because they thought “Üter” was a common German name, but confused him with “Günther”. Uter is evidently modeled after the German Augustus Gloop from Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , which is sometimes referred to in Düsseldorf.

He is dressed like a Tyrolean and corresponds to the popular American cliché of “ Lederhosen -Bavaria”. In the German version he speaks a counterfeit Swiss Standard German and in the English version with a German accent, which probably goes back to the American clichés. In season 11, Skinner mentions that Uter disappeared on the last school trip - but he reappears in later seasons.
